About BFIS
The Bangladesh Forest Information System (BFIS) was developed by the Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change with the technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funding from the UN-REDD programme and USAID. The improvement of BFIS is an on-going process. Currently several of the modules are under development by Sustainable Forest and Livelihoods (SUFAL) project of BFD. The BFIS is managed by the Resources Information Management System Unit of BFD.
The BFIS includes different modules/tools for accessing, adding, and updating information related to forest resource management. Modules are organised according to four categories (1) development activities, (2) management and conservation, (3) forest assessment, and (4) knowledge management. The different modules provide information for BFD personnel to update information about forest management and planning, archive, visualize and download geospatial and other forest related data and encourage data and knowledge sharing between national entities.
